Why writing help you learn Data Science?
During my learning times and career, I am constantly learning new skills.
I always learn a new skill because the skill we need to understand is so much for data scientists, and there is always a new thing coming out every day.
For example, communication, math, machine learning, business, and many more. You required all these skills to improve yourself as a data scientist.
It feels intimidating to learn all of these skills, but it is possible to do that—what you need are consistency and a good learning technique.
The best way for me to learn data science is by writing it out. Why writing thou? Here are some of my arguments.
Writing makes you more focused.
The way our heads think is interesting; we are fascinated with things, but we are easily distracted then we forget to learn.
This is because our head is always trying to catch up with the interesting stuff.
Writing thou takes that distraction away. You constantly need to focus your head to compose the right word and remember what you have learned.
If you need to focus when learning, then write it out. If not, you would be distracted during your learning. Of course, you still need to eliminate the external distraction.
Writing makes you learn more.
Data science is all about learning. Writing would help you learn. It is hand-in-hand, right? Why does writing make us learn more, thou?
When writing, we would try to research what we want to write and learn much about the topic. In this way, writing gives us a path for learning.
I am trying to research all the topics that I want to write about and collect the references before I start writing.
Then, when I write, I already have my head ready—though, I would still learn during the writing moment.
Writing makes you more productive.
Writing is like a warm-up procedure, the action activates the neurons in our brain, and we are ready to learn whatever is in our way.
Try writing what you want to learn in the morning, especially when you want to spend the day learning new data science skills.
The writing would prepare what you want to learn, and your brain would be prepared.
I like to write at night as well, but it makes me hard to sleep because my head keeps spinning after finishing writing, so I suggest starting writing in the morning.
Writing improves your memory capability.
The most important thing when learning is to remember what you learn.
Most of the time, we forget what we learn. Writing thou would help you remember well.
Why does writing help you remember well? Because writing would require you to structure your thought, and it would leave a mark on your head.
When you try to remember something important, write it out.
Writing would let you learn from the other
You could keep what you write for yourself or share it with others; it is your choice.
However, sharing what you have learned with the world would help you get the critiques you need.
People could appreciate what you have written or comment if something you mistakenly learned.
Either way, writing would allow you to connect with the other and give you a chance to learn better.
Writing to get a comment from the other is a motivation because I could learn a lot from what other people say about my writing.
Writing would become your personal library.
Not only writing would help you remember the skill you learn, but it also helps you leave references you could look up in the future.
Imagine you wrote something two years ago but only need that specific skill now. You might forget the knowledge because it’s been so long, but you only need to go back to your personal library to remember.
I love writing because I can always use my writing as a reference when I need to review my skills.
Writing allows you to know what your mistake is
Have you ever learned something and only realized some important detail after a long time? This is happening to me before.
However, since I am writing out everything I learned, I make fewer errors in what I learn.
Whenever I am writing, I think structurally about what I have learned and research it.
The mistake of what I learned is uncovered immediately during the writing process because my thought process found it out.
That is why writing could help you find things that you may miss when reading or watching.
To sum it up
Writing is important when you want to learn data science. The benefit includes:
It Makes you focused
It makes you learn more
It makes you more productive
Improve your memory capability
Let you learn from others
Become your personal library
Allows to know what your mistake is
